Nevada Advances Bill Limiting Gun Rights for Hate Crime Offenders

Nevada lawmakers are moving forward with Senate Bill 89, which aims to prohibit individuals convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from purchasing or owning firearms for up to ten years after their conviction. This proposal, backed by Democratic Senator Julie Pazina, passed out of the Senate with a 12 to 8 vote along party lines, reflecting growing concerns about gun safety and hate-related violence in the state.

The legislation now progresses to the Assembly for further consideration, where it could face additional scrutiny. Pazina emphasized the importance of this bill in fostering a safer environment for all Nevadans, regardless of their background. This comes after Governor Joe Lombardo previously vetoed similar gun control measures, indicating potential challenges ahead for the new proposal.
