Deputies in Union County, North Carolina, arrest 28-year-old Tyler Helms after he stages a robbery to conceal the theft of a John Deere lawnmower belonging to his grandmother. Helms initially called 911 to report the armed robbery, claiming two men stole the mower while he was driving a truck. However, his story quickly fell apart when deputies discovered he had sold the mower through Facebook Marketplace, falsely claiming ownership.
Authorities noted that Helms even suggested contacting the supposed robbers to retrieve the stolen mower, prompting their investigation. Once confronted, the alleged “robbers” returned the mower, which had been sold to them by Helms. He now faces multiple charges including felony larceny and filing a false report, all while remaining in custody without bond.
