Jayden Isaac Simmonds, a 19-year-old from Springfield, Missouri, has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user of controlled substances. This admission comes as Simmonds confessed to daily marijuana use since a young age and an opioid addiction that includes fentanyl. He was found in possession of a stolen Smith and Wesson 10mm pistol linked to two recent shootings in Springfield.
According to court filings, ballistic tests indicate that the gun involved in Simmonds’ case matches shell casings found at crime scenes in August 2024, where residences were fired upon without injuries. Facing a potential 15-year sentence, Simmonds’ case highlights ongoing concerns around gang violence and illegal firearm possession in the region. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled following a presentence investigation.
