A 37-year-old man from North Carolina is sentenced to seven years in prison after using a “ghost gun” to carjack a vehicle on the University of North Carolina-Charlotte campus. Mark Jordan Williams approached a parked Jeep Wrangler on March 23, 2023, threatened the driver with a firearm, and drove away with the vehicle, taking the victim’s personal phone as well.
Williams was arrested later that evening in the stolen Jeep, where law enforcement recovered the .40 caliber Polymer 80 handgun he used during the crime. With a history of prior criminal convictions, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm and subsequently pleaded guilty to related charges. His case highlights the growing concern surrounding ghost guns, which are untraceable firearms often assembled from kits.
