Two Peoria men, Titus Alexander, 32, and Mitchell Smith, 43, have been indicted on multiple charges related to the armed robberies of three massage spas in central Illinois within a two-month span. Both men face three counts of robbery, two counts of possessing a firearm during a robbery, and conspiracy charges for their roles in the increasing wave of local crime, which included violent incidents where victims were assaulted and held at gunpoint.
Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the investigation, revealing the suspects wore Amazon delivery vests during their crimes. In separate incidents, victims reported being threatened and physically harmed, with total theft amounts ranging from $200 to over $1,000. Federal agents have linked the men to a broader series of robberies dating back to January, raising concerns over ongoing safety in the community. They are currently in custody, facing a pretrial hearing set for June 5, and could face up to 94 years in prison if convicted.
