Baltimore Police have released bodycam footage depicting the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Jai Marc Howell, who fired shots at officers before being killed. The incident, which occurred on York Road, escalated when Howell, armed with a ghost gun, fled from police and discharged his weapon, striking an occupied police vehicle twice. Officers responded with approximately 24 rounds, leading to Howell’s death from his injuries.
The aftermath of the shooting has prompted Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott to reiterate the city’s commitment to combatting illegal gun possession and the associated dangers. Despite Howell’s violent actions, recent crime statistics indicate a decline in violence across Baltimore, with only five reported homicides in April 2025, a decrease of 61.5% from the previous year. The police officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
