Officer Sues Sig Sauer for Alleged Gun Malfunction

A former High Point Police officer has filed a lawsuit against Sig Sauer, alleging that his service handgun discharged on its own without any trigger pull, injuring him. Vincent Panico, who has 18 years of experience in law enforcement, claims the popular P320 model is prone to unintended discharges, a concern echoed by dozens of other plaintiffs who report similar incidents since 2015.

The lawsuit highlights the lack of external safety mechanisms on the P320 and cites numerous cases where individuals were unintentionally shot, including a state trooper killed during safety training. Sig Sauer has vigorously denied the allegations, insisting that the P320 cannot fire without a trigger pull, yet the consequences of these claims may lead some law enforcement agencies to reconsider their use of the firearm entirely.
