Delaware Advances Gun Safety and Food Dye Ban Legislation

Delaware lawmakers move forward with significant new legislation, including a gun safety bill and a ban on synthetic red food dye in schools. The gun safety measure, House Bill 154, would provide liability immunity to nonprofits distributing gun safety equipment, encouraging them to promote firearm safety within communities. On the same legislative agenda, Senate Bill 69 proposes restricting public schools from serving foods containing Red No. 40, driven by concerns over the health effects of synthetic dyes on children.

These legislative efforts come as Governor Matt Meyer marks his first 100 days in office, during which he emphasizes economic growth and citizen protection amid federal pressures. Meyer’s administration has faced challenges, including the need to prioritize state initiatives while navigating a landscape of political change, making these new measures critical for Delaware’s public health and safety landscape. “We are bending over backwards to make sure we protect Delawareans,” Meyer stated, underscoring the urgent need for policies that directly impact families.
