Two States Push for Constitutional Carry Laws

Momentum is increasing for constitutional carry laws in Louisiana and South Carolina, with both states considering legislation that would allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms without government permits. In Louisiana, newly inaugurated Governor Jeff Landry has prioritized constitutional carry, citing alarming crime rates, such as New Orleans’ homicide rate being over 100% higher in 2023 compared to 2019.

Meanwhile, South Carolina lawmakers are in renewed discussions over amendments to similar constitutional carry proposals that have stalled in the past. With 27 states already embracing this shift toward fewer restrictions on gun ownership, advocates argue that removing permit requirements empowers law-abiding citizens and enhances public safety. The outcome in these two states could further signify a trend in Second Amendment rights across the nation.
