NYC Seizes 2,200 Illegal Firearms, Cuts Crime Rates

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in collaboration with NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, reports the confiscation of over 2,200 illegal firearms since January 2025, contributing to unprecedented declines in both shootings and homicides. The Mayor’s office emphasizes a 53.9 percent reduction in shooting incidents and a 41.4 percent drop in homicides, marking a historic low for gun violence in the city.

As part of his persistent efforts to combat gun violence, Mayor Adams has implemented data-driven policing strategies and community safety initiatives, including the “Blueprint to End Gun Violence.” The city has allocated nearly $500 million to support these efforts, which also address the alarming rise of ghost guns—untraceable firearms that pose a significant threat to public safety. This comprehensive approach, coupled with a multi-agency collaboration aimed at enforcing gun laws, showcases New York City’s commitment to creating safer neighborhoods.
