D.A. Bragg Invests $295K in Youth Gun Violence Prevention

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announces a significant investment of $295,000 to support local organizations in their summer programs aimed at preventing youth gun violence. This funding, directed to eleven community groups, continues a successful initiative that highlights relationships between the D.A.’s office and local organizations working to engage young individuals in violence prevention efforts.

Among those receiving grants are Emergent Works and Getting Out and Staying Out, with funding designated for initiatives like career readiness and self-expression. Bragg cites a 45% decline in shootings in Manhattan during his tenure, emphasizing that such programs play a vital role in addressing the root causes of gun violence, especially in culturally diverse neighborhoods facing challenges. The resources stem from the Criminal Justice Investment Initiative, redirecting funds seized from major banks back into the community to enhance youth support and safety.
