UB Conference Tackles Gun Violence in Medicine

Medical students, educators, and researchers will converge at the University at Buffalo this weekend for a conference aimed at addressing gun violence prevention within the medical profession. This gathering, taking place from June 6-8, invites health care providers, activists, and community members to collaborate on solutions to the ongoing gun violence epidemic impacting communities nationwide.

The Community Day on June 7 will feature a keynote address from Zeneta Everhart, a council member and mother of a mass shooting survivor. Attendees will also participate in a variety of activities, including creating luminaries to honor victims and learning about “Extreme Risk Protection Orders,” a public health initiative designed to reduce gun-related incidents in New York State. Such engagement highlights the urgent need for collective action in the face of gun-related tragedies.
