The program’s executive director, Lynn Lewis, underscores the urgency of their work, stating that their interventions can be the difference between life and death, especially as tensions escalate in high-risk neighborhoods.
With a specialized team of 15 violence interrupters, 414LIFE utilizes a public health approach to address the root causes of violence, focusing on community engagement and conflict resolution. Last year, their targeted neighborhood experienced a 31% decrease in homicides and a 6% drop in nonfatal shootings, proving the effectiveness of their proactive measures in changing community norms around gun violence.
