Mexico Pursues Arizona Gun Dealer Lawsuit Post-SCOTUS Ruling

Mexico is advancing its legal battle against five Arizona gun dealers, undeterred by a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that dismissed a similar lawsuit against gun manufacturers. The Mexican government asserts that it possesses evidence linking these dealers to specific illegal sales that facilitated the trafficking of firearms to cartels in Mexico, a significant component of their claim against the retailers.

Unlike the dismissed case involving manufacturers, which the Supreme Court ruled lacked direct connection to illegal sales, the Arizona lawsuit highlights concrete transactions, including bulk purchases of firearms and ammunition, that allegedly violate laws geared to prevent trafficking. Notably, Mexico claims that each of the five dealers contributes between 55 to 822 guns annually to this illegal flow, raising questions about their sales practices amidst increasing scrutiny.
