Mass. AG Sues Over Machine Gun Device Distribution

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea J. Campbell has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, along with 16 other state attorneys general, to prevent the distribution of machine gun conversion devices known as “Forced Reset Triggers” (FRTs). These devices enable firearms to fire at rates comparable to military-grade weapons, and the lawsuit targets the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for its decision to stop enforcing federal prohibitions on their use.

Campbell emphasizes that FRTs have been linked to a significant rise in gun violence, highlighting a staggering 1,400% increase in their use from 2019 to 2021. With estimates of at least 100,000 of these devices already distributed across the U.S., Campbell asserts that allowing their further distribution poses a grave threat to community safety, emphasizing, “Weapons of war and tools of mass destruction like FRTs have no place in everyday society.”
