Federal Charges for Twin Cities Graduation Violence

Two men are federally charged with unlawful possession of machine guns following violent incidents related to high school graduations in the Twin Cities. Hamza Abdirashid Said, 20, faces charges after a shooting that injured two at the University of Minnesota, while Amiir Mawlid Ali, 18, is charged after a gun was found in a vehicle he occupied, specifically with a conversion device allowing automatic fire.

Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Joseph Thompson, emphasizes the severity of bringing such weapons to celebratory events, labeling the actions as “immoral and shameful.” Surveillance footage and police reports detail a chaotic scene at the Wayzata High School graduation where one victim sustained a grave head injury as gunfire erupted, compelling the authorities to act swiftly against the suspects involved.
