A Highland Park man is fatally shot by police during a welfare check early Friday after allegedly charging at officers while wielding a knife. The incident occurred around 4:55 a.m. in the 900 block of Half Day Road, where police responded to concerns for the man’s wellbeing and found him in the roadway.
Authorities state that the man quickly advanced on the officers with the knife, leading to the use of deadly force. In the wake of the shooting, which closed a section of Half Day Road, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
