Recent data from SafeWise reveals that Mississippi’s safest cities are experiencing significant decreases in both violent and property crime rates. For the second consecutive year, Petal tops the list as the safest city, with a total of 10 cities maintaining their ranking from the previous year. Notably, Petal and Madison recorded no incidents of rapes, murders, or robberies, while overall crime trends suggest a decline in violent offenses across nearly all cities surveyed.
Despite the positive trend in safety, a survey conducted alongside the study shows that about 72% of Mississippi residents believe crime is on the rise, which is the highest rate of concern in the nation. Interestingly, while the state’s property crime rate is among the lowest in the U.S., Mississippi residents often rely on security cameras, guns, and guard dogs for home protection. The data underscores not only the safest cities but also the protective measures residents are adopting amid contrasting perceptions of safety.
