A 30-year-old man from Kings Mountain, Phillip Leon Leggett, is sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for possessing firearms, including a ghost gun, which is an unregistered firearm often difficult to trace. This conviction follows a dramatic foot chase that occurred in fall 2023 when Charlotte Mecklenburg Police observed Leggett allegedly concealing a firearm and subsequently pursued him on foot as he fled the scene.
During the chase, officers recovered two firearms, including a loaded Taurus PT111 G2 9mm and the ghost gun, both of which Leggett was prohibited from possessing due to prior robbery convictions. He now faces 8 ½ years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, emphasizing the legal repercussions of illegal firearm possession.
