A Tampa teacher, Shannon Lee Samlalsingh, has pled guilty to conspiring to smuggle firearms to a foreign crime organization, as announced by the U.S. Department of Justice. Samlalsingh, 46, falsely claimed she was purchasing weapons for herself while actually working with a Trinidadian criminal group to deliver firearms back to Trinidad and Tobago.

In one instance, her shipment to Trinidad was intercepted at Piarco International Airport, revealing a cache concealed within punching bags and large speakers. If sentenced, Samlalsingh could face up to five years in prison.
