Mother Claims Accidental Shooting of Son in Mesa Incident

Shamonica Cannon, a 43-year-old woman from Phoenix, reportedly shot her 16-year-old son in the neck with a .40 caliber handgun in what she describes as an accident. This incident occurred on June 22 at their Mesa home, where Cannon allegedly fired the weapon while her son was attempting to help restrain her after concerns for her behavior earlier that day.

The shooting has led to a serious legal situation for Cannon, who faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault and endangerment. During the investigation, her estranged husband indicated there were previous issues, noting he had an order of protection against her before the incident occurred. Authorities have set Cannon’s bond at $150,000, and she is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing soon.
