Crime Task Force Reduces Montgomery Offenses by 30%

A collaborative effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement, known as the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit (MACS), has significantly lowered crime rates in Montgomery. Since its formation on June 24, 2024, the unit has conducted over 3,100 traffic stops, served nearly 1,000 arrest warrants, and recovered 68 stolen vehicles, contributing to a remarkable 30% drop in violent crime and a 19% overall decrease in crime rates in the city.

The success of the MACS unit has drawn attention from state officials, with Governor Kay Ivey citing the joint effort as a vital step in tackling violent crime. As law enforcement emphasizes that their work is just beginning, plans to replicate this model in other cities are already in motion, fueled by new funding from a recently passed anti-crime bill. Capt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency underlines that the task force’s efforts represent more than just statistics; they signify meaningful improvements in community safety.
