A 35-year-old Maryland man, Jason White, faces felony charges after attempting to carry an unregistered firearm, known as a “ghost gun,” into the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on June 24, as lawmakers and staff entered for committee hearings, highlighting growing security concerns on Capitol Hill.
Security officers discovered the firearm, which lacked a serial number and is fully functional, during routine checks at a metal detector. White, who does not hold a valid gun permit in D.C. and possesses an expired firearm permit in Maryland, claims he forgot the weapon was in his bag. This arrest marks one of over 20 unlawful firearm possession cases on Capitol Hill this year alone, surpassing previous figures for 2023.
