Four teenagers are in custody in Volusia County after allegedly impersonating a girl on social media to orchestrate an armed robbery. The incident unfolded when a young man, seeking to meet a woman he connected with on Instagram, was held at gunpoint by the suspects who demanded his phone and keys to a vehicle.
Law enforcement responded to the young man’s distress call, leading to the arrests of two of the suspects, who were found trying to catch a Lyft nearby. Authorities later discovered a handgun hidden in the vehicle they had used during the robbery. Charges against the suspects, who are aged 15 to 17, include armed robbery and armed kidnapping, raising significant concerns about youth involvement in serious crimes.
