A locally organized summit in Charlottesville on July 17 will focus on reducing gun violence and introduce a new hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) from UVA Health. This initiative aims to support individuals impacted by gun violence—both victims and perpetrators—by connecting them directly with services and support systems right after they receive medical care.
The summit will leverage data and insights from local organizations to discuss the current state of gun violence in the area, including reflections on the recent July 4 shooting. Attendees will hear from notable speakers and explore how the HVIP could reshape responses to gun violence, with the program expected to launch by the end of the year at participating hospitals across the U.S.
