Thomasville Hosts Gun Safety Event for Youth

Thomasville leaders, including Councilman Terry Scott and Sheriff Tim Watkins, organize a gun safety event on July 19 aimed at addressing the concerning rise in youth gun violence in their community. The event, held at World Wide Ministries, combines the distribution of 100 free backpacks filled with school supplies with discussions focused on emotional control and responsible gun handling.

Councilman Scott’s initiative, “Think Before You React,” was born from personal experiences with neighborhood violence, including five homicides. By providing essential school supplies, he hopes to attract families to engage with crucial safety discussions that could prevent future tragedies among their youth. Sheriff Watkins plans to extend these efforts with an additional backpack giveaway the following weekend, emphasizing his commitment to community support beyond just campaign promises.
