The U.S. Army’s adoption of the Sig Sauer M7 rifle is facing increasing scrutiny as reports reveal significant issues during testing. Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division reported malfunctions, including problems with the suppressor, ammunition, and optics, leading to concerns about reliability in the field.
In a live-fire exercise, soldiers experienced ammunition shortages after just 15 minutes due to the M7’s heavier load and reduced magazine capacity, which holds only 20 rounds compared to the M4’s 30. Moreover, experts have expressed concerns that the weapon’s performance may not justify its heavier weight and complexity, raising questions about the Army’s decision to replace the proven M4 platform with the M7.
