Christopher Murrita Diaz and Gustavo Vergara Avalos, both residents of Monroe, North Carolina, are sentenced to 130 months in prison for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy involving cocaine and illegal firearms. Both men pleaded guilty to several charges, including conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of a machine gun, with Diaz additionally admitting to the distribution of cocaine and other firearm-related offenses.
The investigation into Diaz began when law enforcement discovered he was selling not only cocaine but also “Glock switches,” devices that convert handguns into machine guns. In a recent law enforcement operation, officers seized an array of contraband including 10 firearms and 26 Glock switches from a search at Vergara-Avalos’ residence, highlighting the scale of their operation.
