Police in Woodbridge, Virginia, shot and killed a 52-year-old man armed with a crossbow following a series of confrontations, including a previous brandishing incident involving a firearm. The Prince William County Police Department received reports of the man at approximately 2:45 p.m. and attempted to negotiate his peaceful surrender for over four hours before the situation escalated with the man running towards Potomac Mills Mall.
During the confrontation, the man reportedly posed a threat by pointing the crossbow at officers, which led to the fatal shooting. Police Chief Peter Newsham confirmed that the individual, known to authorities, had already fled from police twice earlier in the day. Police stress that there is no ongoing threat to the community and that the Critical Incident Response Team is now investigating the incident as an independent body.
