A 20-year-old man named Leonardo Gomez-Hernandez is facing multiple charges after police discovered him unconscious in his vehicle early Saturday morning in Northeast Portland. Officers responded to reports of a person slumped over in their car at the intersection of Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 82nd Avenue, where they found Gomez-Hernandez with a loaded firearm and an extended magazine in his lap.
Responding officers quickly developed a tactical plan to safely approach the situation, which ended in Gomez-Hernandez’s arrest for unlawful possession of firearms. In addition to the weapon found in his lap, police seized another loaded firearm from the vehicle before it was towed away. This incident raises concerns about firearm safety and illegal possession in public spaces.
