The Harmony in the Streets summer camp in Tallahassee is making strides to build positive relationships between teenagers and local law enforcement, hosting 65 participants this week. Organized by the Council on the Status of Men and Boys, the camp offers valuable life skills education, ranging from cooking to conflict resolution, specifically catering to teens aged 12-17, a demographic often overlooked in community programs.
Participants who complete the camp with perfect attendance receive a $200 gift card, incentivizing engagement and commitment. CSMB Executive Director Royle King highlights the increasing need for such initiatives to keep teens away from violence during critical summer months, where structured activities become scarce. The camp collaborates with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office to create a supportive environment focused on community harmony.
