A significant increase in concealed carry gun permit applications is observed on Long Island following a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that deemed New York State’s permit rules unconstitutional. Firearms dealer Matt Seifer reports that his business has skyrocketed, jumping from assisting three applicants per week to 10 per day, as the demand for gun safety training surges amidst the legal changes.
While approximately 32,000 Nassau residents currently hold pistol licenses, the Nassau police have reported a 150% increase in applications since the ruling came down. New legislation, taking effect on September 1, mandates extensive training and background checks for applicants, aiming to regulate the expected influx of permits in the wake of the court’s ruling, which could allow many more Long Islanders to carry concealed weapons legally.
