Fleming Island Man Gets Six Years for Gun Crimes

Jason Stewart Karst II, a resident of Fleming Island, is sentenced to six years in federal prison for possessing firearms as a convicted felon, violating strict federal laws. His sentencing follows a guilty plea earlier this year and stems from evidence collected in April 2024, which revealed not only unregistered firearms but also silencers and a homemade weapon at his residence.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and strengthening community trust in law enforcement. Karst’s arrest involved multiple agencies, including the ATF and local sheriff’s offices, and underscores the serious implications of firearm possession for individuals with prior felony convictions.
