Nebraska’s Deer Hunting Season Boosts Local Economy

The Nebraska firearm deer hunting season kicks off on November 15, expected to draw around 60,000 to 70,000 hunters across all 93 counties, providing a substantial boost to local economies. According to Greg Wagner from Nebraska Game and Parks, many of these hunters, including a significant number from out of state, contribute to small businesses by purchasing gas, groceries, and hunting gear during their visit.

In addition to economic benefits, hunters can also engage in the Hunters Helping the Hungry program, which donates processed deer meat to those in need. Local meat processors, like the Stoysich House of Sausage, play a crucial role in this effort, processing an average of 12,000 pounds of deer meat each year and donating unclaimed meat to organizations like the Siena Francis House. This initiative not only supports local economies but also helps provide healthy food options for community members facing food insecurity.
