The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced a drawing on August 26 for youth interested in participating in the annual deer hunt at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area and Sangamon County State Conservation Area. This special event allows eligible youth, who will be under 18 during the hunt from October 11 to 13, to secure their opportunity for an either-sex deer permit by submitting their application by mail before the deadline.
Application postcards must include the youth’s name and contact details and be sent to the JEPC office by August 25. Additionally, youth must either possess a valid youth deer permit or have an apprentice/hunting license, and they need to be accompanied by an adult with a valid Illinois hunting license. This drawing not only promotes outdoor engagement for young people but also highlights the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ ongoing commitment to conservation and recreational activities throughout the state.
