A youth-led town hall in Danville convenes this Thursday evening, focusing on urgent calls for action to combat gun violence in the community. Motivated by the recent shooting death of 18-year-old Aniyah Davis and two other youth-related incidents, organizers like 20-year-old Chase Clark emphasize the pressing need for a city gun violence prevention plan, inviting local officials—including Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.—to participate in the dialogue.
The event, named “Voices For Change,” will feature a panel of young speakers sharing their personal experiences with violence, as well as proposed solutions for curbing these tragic occurrences. With hopes of forming a political action committee post-event, the teens aim to ensure sustained advocacy and funding for violence prevention initiatives in Danville, drawing inspiration from successful strategies implemented in nearby Champaign.
