A recent study by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reveals that concealed carry laws are contributing to an increased sense of danger among Americans, contradicting the gun industry’s longstanding claims that arming the public enhances safety. The findings show that a majority of respondents, including gun owners, feel less secure in the presence of concealed guns, with 57% of non-gun owners reporting increased anxiety over armed individuals in public spaces.
The NSSF has commissioned multiple studies since 2011, all aligning with this disturbing trend, leading some experts to argue that the gun industry thrives on fear rather than genuinely improving public safety. This disconnect has raised concerns among lawmakers, including Senator Alex Padilla, who noted that the gun industry is not just selling firearms but also a pervasive atmosphere of fear, calling for a reassessment of current gun regulations to protect communities effectively.
