A 20-year-old South Bend man, Jordan Bowers, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for possessing an illegal machine gun conversion device known as a “Glock switch.” This device enables a handgun to fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull, raising significant safety concerns among law enforcement and the community.
In January 2024, Bowers was caught with a modified Glock during a shootout with another person in a vehicle, which underscores the potential dangers posed by such illegal firearms. Following his guilty plea to federal firearm charges, he also faces two years of supervised release after his prison term, marking a significant enforcement action by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with local authorities.
