Chicago Teens Launch Anti-Violence Campaigns

In a groundbreaking initiative, about 50 Chicago teens are developing anti-violence social media campaigns that challenge prevailing myths about guns and safety. Engaged in a competitive environment, these young individuals, supported by local organizations and Project Unloaded, present messages aimed at discouraging their peers from associating with firearm ownership.

During their summer program, teens expressed surprise at statistics revealing that fewer of their peers carry guns than they assumed and that owning a gun does not enhance safety. One group’s campaign playfully labels gun owners as “goofy,” aiming to illustrate how young people can be easily misled by misconceptions. The best campaign will be shared on a national platform, amplifying their vital message across social media channels.
