Arkansas is gearing up for an exciting duck hunting season, with over 100,000 hunters expected to participate from November 18, 2023, to January 30, 2024. Despite the state experiencing fairly dry conditions, officials from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) emphasize that migratory ducks will continue to flock southward in search of warmer climates, following patterns established over millennia.
Jim Harris, managing editor of AGF Wildlife Magazine, notes that the influx of hunters from out of state contributes significantly to the local economy, generating an estimated $70 million annually. This surge in visitor activity not only impacts local businesses but also showcases Arkansas’s pivotal role within the Central and Mississippi flyways, where nearly a million ducks are harvested each season.
