Milwaukee city officials are taking action in response to a troubling increase in gun violence along North Water Street, a central entertainment area. This rise in incidents has led Common Council members to schedule a special Public Safety and Health Committee meeting to address urgent safety concerns and hear from police department representatives about their crime prevention strategies.
Recent violent episodes include a July 12 shooting that claimed two lives outside ELMNT lounge, alongside several other assaults occurring within close proximity to the barricaded area designed for safety during busy weekend nights. With six homicides and 20 nonfatal shootings reported in the downtown Police District this year, officials are eager to explore solutions to combat this violence and restore public safety.
