In addition to honoring Rylee’s memory, the event underscored the rising concern among residents and officials alike, with Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison urging for increased state funding for Community Violence Intervention programs. The urgency is heightened by recent incidents, including a separate drive-by shooting that injured two sleeping children. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to assist Rylee’s family with funeral costs, further highlighting the community’s resolve to seek justice and safety for its youngest members.
