Community Calls for ‘No Crime Weekend’ in Chicago

Faith-based leaders and community groups in Chicago are launching a campaign for a “No Crime Weekend,” aiming to curb gun violence in the city. This initiative includes a peace walk through the Pullman neighborhood, where participants, including former gang members and residents, gather to promote unity and safety in the community.

Organizers emphasize the importance of collective action, stating, “One block can’t do it, one organization can’t do it, but the City of Chicago can do it.” Geri Jones, executive director of the St. Titus One Youth Program, highlights that through collaboration and prayer, the community is dedicated to changing the narrative around violence. Recent police statistics show a notable decline in shootings and murders, suggesting that community efforts are beginning to yield positive results.
