Forsyth County is set to open registration for an urban deer hunting program, permitting 16 residents to bow hunt near the Shakerag Water Reclamation facility on specific dates in October and November. The initiative, aimed at addressing the growing complaints about deer-related damage to landscaping and increased vehicle accidents, opens the October hunt to youths aged 10 to 17, while the November sessions welcome adults 18 and older.
Participants will be allowed to harvest two deer, one of which must be a doe, as part of the county’s wildlife management efforts. Interested hunters can apply starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, with a $20 fee for selected applicants. With a limited number of spots available and recent concerns regarding local deer populations, this program provides a structured opportunity for residents to help manage wildlife in their community.
