Sterling Pettway, 49, is charged with murder and assaulting a police officer after allegedly shooting and killing Deonte Alexander, 38, in Cleveland’s West Boulevard neighborhood. The incident occurred near West 73rd Street and Clark Avenue, where officers found Alexander deceased upon arrival.
Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd confirms that officers encountered Pettway a few blocks away, leading to a confrontation where shots were fired. The investigation continues to determine whether Pettway discharged his weapon at the officers. He is currently detained in the Cuyahoga County Jail, and the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid leave as the case unfolds.
