El Paso County conducts its fourth and final gun buyback event today from 8 AM to 12 PM at the Ascarate County Tax Office, offering participants prepaid gift cards in exchange for unwanted firearms. As this initiative concludes, gun owners can receive up to $200 for turning in assault rifles, while ghost guns are notably excluded due to their untraceable nature.
With over 400 weapons collected in previous buybacks from 2023 and 2024, and nearly 300 so far this year, the program demonstrates significant community engagement. However, starting September 1st, House Bill 30-53 will prohibit gun buyback events across Texas, making today’s opportunity one of the last for residents to turn in firearms anonymously and help promote safety in their neighborhoods.
