Republican lawmakers introduce a bill that would diminish Washington, D.C.’s home rule, allowing individuals with concealed carry permits from any state to carry in the capital. This move challenges existing local regulations that require permits and weapons to be registered with the city’s Metro Police.
The bill also includes provisions that limit D.C.’s ability to address various social issues, such as prohibiting funds for abortion services and recreational marijuana commercialization. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.’s House Delegate, expressed outrage at what she describes as an unprecedented infringement on the rights of D.C.’s 700,000 residents.
