Man charged in shooting of wheelchair-bound man in Seattle

A 32-year-old man is charged with first-degree assault after allegedly shooting a wheelchair-bound individual during a dispute over military service claims on the Seattle waterfront. The incident occurred on July 31 when Gregory William Timm confronted Harold James Powell, accusing him of “stolen valor” and demanding military identification before pulling out a handgun and firing a single shot into Powell’s chest.

Witness accounts suggest that tensions escalated when Powell, who was attempting to show his veteran ID, reached for a knife instead. Despite having an airsoft gun in a holster, he reportedly never threatened Timm with it. Timm, who has no prior criminal history, was quickly detained by law enforcement following the shooting, which took place near a busy Starbucks. His bail is set at $750,000, highlighting the seriousness of the charges he faces.
