Witness accounts suggest that tensions escalated when Powell, who was attempting to show his veteran ID, reached for a knife instead. Despite having an airsoft gun in a holster, he reportedly never threatened Timm with it. Timm, who has no prior criminal history, was quickly detained by law enforcement following the shooting, which took place near a busy Starbucks.
