Wisconsin Democrats are introducing a bill to ban concealed carry on college campuses, hoping to enhance safety and prevent gun violence. If passed, the legislation would make possessing a firearm on campus, even for those with concealed carry licenses, a Class A misdemeanor, which could result in up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
This proposal follows a tragic incident at UW-Platteville and brings to light that Wisconsin is one of only 14 states requiring public universities to allow concealed carry. Advocates, including survivors of past gun violence, believe this change is crucial for safeguarding students in academic environments where firearms are currently permitted.
