New Hampshire Launches Fall Hunting Seasons This Week

New Hampshire kicks off its fall hunting seasons this week, starting with black bear, gray squirrel, and Canada goose hunts on Labor Day. Following these openings, the more popular archery seasons for turkey and white-tailed deer will commence, suggesting a vibrant autumn ahead for outdoor enthusiasts.

Although the state has seen a significant decline in licensed hunters—approximately half the numbers since the late 1980s—hunting remains a key cultural and economic activity, contributing about $182 million annually. Recent data indicates a stabilization in hunting license sales, with nearly 73,000 licenses sold last year, pointing to a potential rebound in interest. Public safety remains a priority, as no bystander fatalities have occurred in recent memory, making this season an opportunity for hunters and outdoor lovers alike.
